Cable to test is the one we have been discussing:
AmazonBasics 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA Adapter Audio Stereo Cable - 4 Feet
1/8" end goes into headphone of Craig cassette.
Red and white RCA go into the red & white on the Elgato.
Elgato USB goes into MacBook Air
You should then be able to switch the audio input in > System Preferences... > Audio > Input to the Elgato/USB. See if you get sound that way, you can then try it in QuickTime Player > File > New Audio Recording.
