I am trying to coax Workgroup Manager into letting me give certain users administrative rights for our open directory/LDAP server. The literature on the subject suggests that it should be a fairly straightforward procedure. I did the following:
1. Connected to Workgroup Manager as the Open Directory Administrator (login name=diradmin) and authenticated to the LDAP server.
2. Clicked on the name of the user to whom I wanted to extend privileges.
3. Clicked the "administer this directory domain" box in the "basic" panel.
4. Made sure the privileges were set correctly.
I thought the deal was done at that. I disconnected from the server and tried to connect again (in Workgroup Manager) using the username and password of the user to whom I had just given directory administrative privileges.
Nothin' doin'. The dialogue box screams this at me: "the login information is not valid for this server."
I suspect this may be a bit of an uncommon problem, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful. Thanks!
