Have never had a minutes trouble. Bragged on it yesterday now she's dead. I opened macbook monitor came on then went black. Now all I can get is a series of tones, the light is on on the front, sounds like hard drive is trying to run, then tones again and nothing. Is it fixable or will I possibly be able to retrieve information on it?
Thanks

Hi,

If by tonnes you mean 3 chimes then it sound like one of your memory sticks has gone bad. It will most likely be the one that boots up first. But can you give your Mac specs.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think you hit the nail on the head. I had memory added 4 months ago. I took the computer in to the shop since my post.
They said the components needed reseated. It brought it home used it for a day and it is doing the same thing. It is a hassle but I will return it to the shop once more. I feel sure the memory is failing rather than needing reseating. The mac book is eight years old and by adding memory I was trying to buy some time before having to purchase a whole new mac book. Looks like I may as well bite the bullet. With this economy its not a good time .

Thank you for replying:D

Hi,

You are welcome and I still feel it is bad memory not a board issue, let us know what they say.

Yep It was a bad memory stick. Sorry it took so long to reply. Haven't been on internet since I got it back. Thanks
