wireless router problem

I just got a new Netwear wireless router which works fine with my macbook with Mac os x version 10.4.11 except when the macbook goes to sleep. When I restart the laptop no internet connection even though it shows full reception up top. I have to unplug the power to the router and plug it back it to get the connection. I have other netwear routers that I do not have this problem with. Any thoughts?
