Windows freeze with new OS

I have a macbook pro and recently installed the new OS (10.6). I run windows XP and now my system continually freezes when I am in the virtual machine. It temporarily freezes when I am on the internet, especially with the touchpad. If I use a mouse it works better. When in a WORD document it freezes and I have to save the document to unfreeze. Is there a fix for this, and if not how to I go back to the old OS?

by 'virtual machine' ... are you running bootcamp, parallels, VMWare fusion? Also what version number?

Thanks Ric. I am running version 2.0 of VM Fusion. Another thing I figured out is that when it freezes I can hit the middle mouse button to go to spaces and go right back to windows and then it is OK.
