WiFi Signal

I have a early 2008 Macbook pro 15" and have problems when in Mexico getting a decent wifi signal into our rental unit. The building is concrete and the signal comes from the outdoor hallway of the building. The reception can be very intermittent. Is there any way of improving this situation? I am a senior who is not that computer savy but like to stay in touch with family via email and Skype. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the videos. Very interesting but my problem is getting a strong enough signal, not speed.
