WiFi Searching

How do you keep a MacBook from continually searching for a WiFi Network. I use a secure router at home and work and have chosen the network I prefer, but my laptop says it keeps searching got WiFi.

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model of Mac?
-Which version of OS X?
-Do you mean it states Wi-Fi: Looking for Networks... when you click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar? If so, it will always search for new networks when you click the Wi-Fi icon.
