which photoshop for new iMac?

My new iMac was ordered. I have a very tight deadline that will require simple use of Photoshop.
I don't like the creative cloud concept, and keep hearing that 6.0 can be bought, and will run fine on the new iMacs.
Is this true? Or will there be those glitches that take a day of phone calls?
Is getting into (yech) Cloud, the only way to get up and running quickly?

Is Gimp an option perhaps? Much like Photoshop, and free.

Pixelmator is very reasonably-priced as well. (And I like it as a photoshop alternative better than the GIMP...but that is simply a matter of preference.)
