What is application memory?

Hi
I keep getting this dialog box and I can't work out what is the problem.
I am using Mojave on a 27in iMac with an i5 Intel processor, a 1tb ssd and 24gb ram.
I don't know if this means my ram is no longer any good, or if I just need to upgrade the entire system.
I only use Microsoft Office, the accessibility keyboard, Photoshop and Mail.
Can anyone help me out?
