Weird symbols

I closed my Macbook after routine use, and when I opened it back up, I could only open up Safari, and when I tried to click on a link, it would be sent to downloads. Also, when I tried to type something, only strange symbols would appear. Does anyone know what happened and how I can fix it?

Try a restart? Apple menu > Restart

Yes, I rebooted the computer multiple times

Hi,

Try this shut Mac down and reboot, create new user account. Do you still have this issue with the new account?
