My iMac has a problem or problems that I would like to know how to fix. It will run fine, then suddenly freeze. I have to restart using the power button. It could freeze at different times of usage, sometimes after an hour or sometimes after several hours. Sometimes the screen goes black and the computer restarts itself. At other times the screen goes black and it shuts down and doesn't restart. I can press the power button and it will start up again, or at times when I press the power button it doesn't respond. I might have to press it several times before it finally starts up. I also at times get lines or black out parts on the screen.

I replaced the hard drive and upgaded the memory and everything was working fine leadning me to think it was the hard drive, but after about 2 or 3 months the old symptoms returned again. Is this fixable and worth paying for, or am I best to put the money toward to new computer? Thank you

If you mean did I use an antistatic mat when I upgraded the RAM, not I didn't. But I had this problem before upgrading and after upgrading the RAM and adding a new HD the problems went away for 2 or 3 months, then returned. If the RAM was burned, the problem would have showed up much sooner. Am I wrong?

not necessarily, but its your call.

take that RAM out would be the first thing we would test.

Also check your Console Logs for reported problems...

Thank you Kaveman for the advice. I'll take the RAM out, but how do I test it to determine if that is the problem?

Kaveman, I copied out some of the items that looked suspicious from the log. Can you see a problem based on any of this? Thanks

That's good to know. I'll remove CleanMyMac and see if that helps. One thing I noticed is when I repair my permissions, if I repair it again it still shows permissions off and says it repaired them. I tried a third time and it keeps saying it repairs them. Is that normal? When doing it a second time i expected it to say permissions were OK because it claims to have repaired them.
