Using my mac for my xbox display

Hi i was told i could use my imac older model with the mini dvi to play my xbox on.

So i got a Mini Dvi to hdmi but the mac does not pick up the xbox.

am i doing something wrong

my mac is on 10.6.8

Hello and welcome.

Unfortunately, you received some incorrect information. The iMac with the Mini-DVI connector doesn't support video input without some form of video converter device - i.e. EyeTV, etc. iMacs with the Mini DisplayPort can be used with the Kanex XD ($149).
