I have macOS Monterey 12.7.6 and I have noticed in Terminal that my user directory is now called;

Stephens-MacBook-Pro.local

Can I change it to just be;

Stephens.MacBook-Pro

Hi Stephen and welcome to the forum.

The easiest way is to open the system preferences and go to Sharing. Make sure that the computer name does not have .local on it.

The more complex way would be to use the terminal. in terminal type in sudo pico .bash_profile then Enter After typing in your password hit Enter again and in the document that shows up enter the following on the 1st line PS1="Stephen's MacBook Pro:\w $" Or any name that you want there I prefer my name then MB Pro. After you enter the line ht Control X and then Y to save it.
