SOLVED Trouble editing text in Mail

Hi, I'm using OS 10.11. Lately, on my Mac Pro, Mail will not let me edit text I have entered. If I place the cursor in the spot where I want to change/insert text, whatever edit I make shows up about 6 characters before or after the chosen spot. I've taken to composing all my emails in Text Wrangler and pasting the text into my message. This is not happening in any other application. Any ideas much appreciated.

• First thing to try would be to quit all open applications and restart.
• Have you changed the default font in Mail?

Hey Cory, the second point sounded easier so I did it and it worked. With this old OS, I have a really mixed up collection of fonts and I guess I was using an old postcript font. Switched to Arial Unicode 14 and it worked. Thanks a bunch.
