transferring a movie from mac to usb to dvd

Can anyone help. I have recently converted to an apple mac and the procedure I used to follow doesn't seem to work can anyone advise step by step how to take a downloaded movie file and transfer to usb which is then playable in a dvd player.

If its in the correct format fro the TV you just drag and drop it onto the USB stick.
