I have an old (lamp-type) mac with lots of addresses and bookmarks and pictures that I'd like to transfer to my new macbook air. There is a simple way to do that--but I don't know what it is. Can someone help?

the built in Migration Assistant migrates your whole user account, when you set up your new computer choose migrate account option.

Correct, but the problem in this case is...Migration Assistant in Mavericks only supports source Macs running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or later.

You will have to manually copy your data. We can give you guidance if needed. Do you have an external USB hard drive around that you can use to transfer your files?

opps,

You could plug them together, FireWire 400 to ThunderBolt cable required. Boot the old Mac with the "T" key held down and your drive will be there on the New Mac, no need for double handling the files.
