Transfer data from new to old mac

Sorry if this a dumb question.

I have a 2017 Macbook Air running Big Sur 11.2.2. It is backed up with Time Machine.
I bought a 2012 quad core Mac Mini running Catalina 10.15.7
I wish to load the Macbook Air data and apps onto the Mini.

While I see the backup disk on the desktop and in Disk Utilities, the Migration Assistant fails to find the backup disk to transfer the information. It just continues to search.

Any help would be much appreciated.
