Transcend Jet drive bust ?

I wanted to download and try El Capitan. Signed up for the beta and downloaded it. Went to upload it to my Transcend Jet drive (so as to keep it away from my main drive). Once downloaded all was going well until the install onto the jet drive. I could see it at first in disk utility, but since then I can't mount it. It's not showing up in storage, disk utility, USB drive in system profiler.
I then plugged it in to a colleagues laptop (same as mine, macbook air 13), but it won't show up on his system either. It's formatted as GUID in the partition as the instructions stated, but now it's invisible I seem to have nowhere to go. Any ideas ???

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model of MacBook Air?
-Which model/capacity of JetDrive?
-Did you replace the SSD in your MBA with the Jet SSD, or simply install it in the external enclosure?

There are specific models of the JetDrive that are compatible with specific models of the MacBook Air.

256gb 2014 13" model
Transcend is 128gb plugged into the SD slot on the side. All visible and all ok until this.

Per Transcend's Compatibility page on their website, the only model that is compatible with your MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014) is the JetDrive Lite 130. The JetDrive 500 series doesn't show as compatible. There is probably a hardware reason it is not visible after the initial setup - either compatibility or early field failure.

Which model did you purchase? I would contact their customer support directly, as they can diagnose the issue properly.

I purchased the model that you mentioned, the Jetdrive Lite 130. It was all OK prior to partitioning and trying to install the El Capitan OS. Is there a way to force the mac to recognise that there's something there ??

Sometimes, SD cards are not recognized if they are inserted very slowly. Try removing it, then insetting reasonably quickly, but not roughly. See if it mounts then.

Since it wasn't recognized on multiple Macs, it may be defective...can you exchange it at the point of purchase?
