Time Machine - from two different machines to one

Hi everyone,

We have two iMacs, both on Yosemite, we want to replace these machines with a single 5K retina. Question: can I use Time Machine backups from each iMac to create separate profiles on the 5K retina?

Yes, you can migrate users from two different Time machine backups. However, they cannot have the same user name, or you will run into problems. Do both of the users have the same short name?

Thank you Cory. I will try it later. No both names are different. Presumably I just, for my wife's profile, create her new log-in and plug in the Time Machine from her iMac and migrate her data across?

Don't create her user before migrating from Time Machine, as that will cause issues. Use the Migration Assistant to migrate only her user.
