Clicking on my 'Time Machine' producing the following notification:
"The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code - 6584)"
Does anyone know what this means, please?

Have it been making TimeMachine backups?
Open the System Preference > Time Machine panel and see if there is additional information.

I am a beginner in these matters, so please bear with me. My installation was set up by a friend, who is no longer around, but he seems to have incorporated an additional memory called 'Lacie'. So, upon opening System Preferences I find three options called 'Public', 'Share', and 'Time Machine'. Which ever one I choose I'm told that '… the version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.' Shall I simply unplug the Lacie device and see what happens, and is this Lacie device worth having? I'll appreciate any suggestions.
