Since "upgrading" to iOS7, every time I try to write msg to someone, this horrible electronic female voice appears spewing gibberish. Usually the gibberish contains part of a word I've written, but changed a different word. Sometimes she just picks a word randomly and repeats it over and over.

There is a "Done" button, which I've tried, but this just generated a gray field with w wavy white line ans then the Evil Witch returns to torment me.

Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of her mindless blithering for good?

Cheers

I don't have access to iOS at all so I'm not 100% sure exactly what your issue is, but a quick google turned this up:

Head over to Settings > General > Siri and turn it off

Siri is inbuilt with iOS7 but I don't know whether turning it off will help you or what the pros & cons of turning Siri off would be.

Hi,

Siri or other voice translators should not interact with text messages so am a little confused, unless of course you are using Siri to speak your message instead of using the keypad. Messaging via, whatsapp, viber etc have there own verbal message system just need access to the phone or iPads mic.
But I second SD`s suggestion re turning Siri off and just typing message.

Yes, it was a "voice over" that needed to be turned off because it shouldn't have been larking around in my msgs anyway. I have nothing to do with Sir

Hi,

Good to hear you have this sorted, :)I have to say I find Siri very helpful when I'm in an area I don't know well.

Also remember if you do use Siri you can always change the voice.

Siri won't work for me because it doesn't understand anything I say. I have the same problem with those automated voice queries. Mercifully, Apple Accessibility gave me a number that connects directly to a human being. I wish all companies were so accommodating to people with disabilities. Although Siri's voice may be changeable, nothing can be done about mine - it is permanently trashed.

this has never happened to me the only help that i can give you is that this is a software error and i recommend you back up you device to itunes or icloud and perform a wipe to the factory settings if that does not work then you will need to contact apple to get this sorted. ps i have not read any of the comments on this thread so if i have mentioned anything already discussed then ignore me

That's funny - I mean the accent problem.! Linguists have counted 133 varieties of English, or to quote one, "Globish". My problem is that my vocal cords are nearly occluded by scar tissue from auto-immune disease, so I sound like I just swallowed a driveway; Siri don't grok me.

The sweet patient folks at Apple Accessibility just cope with me.

But today they are closed for the holiday, so I hope you can help.

My main life-support system, i.e. my iPad, has been hijacked by Amazon. Sort of like those old zombie movies, no matter what I poke Safari dumps me back in Amazon.

So I called Amazon, and the dude said, "Delete your Amazon app". I don't remember how to accomplish that bit where you poke something and all the icons start boogieing around the screen, at which point you can manipulate them, including delete them- could you please remind me?

Thanks
marti in Chico

PS: I don't actually believe this will help but I burn that bridge after I jump off it.

Gee, Charlie, thanks for your reply but this sounds to me rather like burning the village in order to save it!

I have also been assured that all my stuff is on the cloud and nothing can be lost. I have also been told that if you're good when you die you'll go heaven but I have never heard from anyone who actually had either of those experiences.

cheers
marti

PS: I have been a MacHead since 1986 and to me iOS7 feels like a stab in the back.

Hi marti,

To delete an iPad app just hold a finger on it until the apps start to giggle, then a X should appear just tap this and you will be asked if you want to delete it.
Happy new year.:)
