Hello,

I guess the area, or bar, on the very bottom that
has all the icons is called the Taskbar.

I used to have it as only a single row.
If I wanted to see the rest, there was a small arrow that brought it up.

Now, I have a double row of icons. At all times.
Something has changed, obviously.

Tried all the Taskbar settings, but cannot find the setting
that will have the taskbar display only a single row of icons on the bottom.

How, please, do I do it ?

Thanks,
Bob

It sounds like you are referring to the macOS Dock, not a taskbar, since you mentioned using a Mac previously. Here’s how to adjust the Dock settings to show only a single row of icons:

Adjusting the Dock Settings on macOS

  1. Open System Settings:
    • Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen.
    • Select System Settings from the dropdown menu.
  2. Go to Dock & Menu Bar Settings:
    • In the System Settings window, select Desktop & Dock from the sidebar.
  3. Adjust Dock Size:
    • Use the slider next to Size to adjust the Dock size. Dragging it to the left will make the icons smaller, which might help in fitting all icons in a single row.
  4. Turn Off Magnification:
    • If Magnification is enabled, it might make the icons appear larger. Turn off Magnification by unchecking the box next to it.
  5. Position on Screen:
    • Ensure the Dock is positioned at the bottom of the screen. This option can be found under Position on Screen.

Reducing the Number of Icons in the Dock

  1. Remove Unnecessary Icons:
    • Right-click (or Control-click) on any unnecessary icon in the Dock.
    • Select Options > Remove from Dock.
  2. Use Stacks:
    • Consider organizing files and folders into stacks to reduce clutter. Right-click on a folder in the Dock and select Use Stacks.

Additional Tips

  1. Minimize Windows to Application Icon:
    • This can help reduce the number of windows that appear in the Dock.
    • Go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Minimize windows into application icon and check the box.
  2. Hide the Dock Automatically:
    • You can set the Dock to hide automatically when not in use.
    • In System Settings > Desktop & Dock, enable Automatically hide and show the Dock.
Let me know if it helps.
