So I make sure to keep my mac relatively clean, and I run weekly cleaning programs on my mac, however, when i check the "storage" Tab in the "About My Mac", i see that movies are currently taking up 100+GB on my hard drive (only have a 250GB hard drive it fills up quickly). I find this to be quite confusing as i keep all of my movies on an external HD and only have 25GB of movies/TV shows currently on my hard drive. Whenever i search both on spotlight and any other search on my mac, only 25GB on movies show up. Is there a possibility that files are being hidden from spotlight searches? (I checked the spotlight search preferences and everything is ticked off.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Grand Perspective, the "About My Mac" is not file location based, its file type. So a help file Movie is still counted as a Movie, although its not in the Movies Folder.

thanks for the response, now using Grand Prespective, im finding "mobile backups" ranging in size from 200-500 MBs each, is that something that is important or can i just get rid of them?

They are a part if TimeMachine local backup, they will go away when no longer required, and the space they take will be reclaimed if required. The general idea is that you do not manage your HD space when it comes to these files, they are "system" cache files.

hmm... its quite strange then becuase when i run a full scan using GP on all my files its under 100GB yet it doesn't show a change on the HD information... i guess ill just have to come back to it when my HD inevitably gets full... again...
