Someone used my mac and my iphoto is now empty with a little wheel turning continuously. Why is that

Ensure that iPhoto is not running. (Apple > Force Quit > iPhoto)
Hold down the Command and Option Key, while clicking iPhoto in the Dock.
A window will them give you repair options, start with the first one and see if that helps, not it may take some time.
