I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac.
A number of my older files, as far as I can tell so far all written in MSWord, have been converted into a strange file type which I cannot open, although the finder identifies them as being in the Word format. I have tried several ways of opening the files but at best can produce only garbage. The file icon looks like a darkened screen with the label “exec” in the upper left-hand corner.
I would like to know how to stop this involuntary conversion of readable into non-readable files. I would also like to be able to convert those “exec” files back into their original format.
