show hidden files in Lion

How can i change my settings to show hidden files (such as files starting with "." like .htaccess) in finder?

i have downloaded several files from an ftp including .htaccess files but when i view the folder i put the files in i cant see the .htaccess files. i know theyre there but they dont show up unless i change the file name to 1.htaccess or something like that (putting something in front of the "."

ive tried finder preferences and view options and i dont see anything to show hidden files.

how can i set this up?
