Hi
I'm considering buying my first Macbook, having previously used only Windows-based PCs and laptops. On Windows I use the software "Agent Ransack" to perform searches for files with specific content. The search results it produces detail the contents of the file which contain the search term, and the search term is highlighted. For example, if I search for the word "test", it will list all files containing that word, in the left hand results pane. In the right hand pane, when you select a particular file, it will display the lines in that file containing the word "test", and the word "test" itself will be highlighted.
I use this feature a lot on my work. Is there any similar feature in MacOS, or a program available for MacOS which does the same? Having watched some videos online, Googled to find an answer and tried to achieve this on a Macbook in a retail store, I wasn't able to get it to do this. In Finder, having searched by content, in the preview of the file, it displays the text at the beginning of the file - which doesn't necessarily contain the word/term you're looking for - and even when the word/term is present in that text, it isn't highlighted, which makes it difficult to find in the file. It would be possible to open up each file individually and look for the term, but that would be very time consuming.
Grateful in advance for any help!
