Screen Times Out Before Password

Hi everybody!

My problem occurs after I put my Macbook Pro to sleep by closing the monitor, and almost every time.

When I start it back up, it proceeds to show the login screen, but it won't allow me to type anything, nor does it recognize mouse movements.

Usually, it will then time out, and I have to wait a few seconds, turn the login screen back on and login.

Sometimes it lets me login immediately, but it's rare, and sometimes it even does it multiple times.

I hope you may see how this is a frustrating problem, and why I'd like to fix it.

Thank you,

I.Borrelli

Hello and welcome.

-What model Mac?
-What version of OS X?
-Have you tried unchecking "Require password xxxx after sleep or screen saver begins" in System Preferences > Security > General?

Hello and thank you.
The model is MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012).
My OSX version is 10.8.5.
I would prefer not to remove that precaution since I like to keep my information more secure, but if it were necessary, I could keep it secure differently!
If you have any other solutions, they're definitely welcome.
Thanks again.

You can leave it as is then.

When you wake a Mac from closed-lid sleep, it can take more than a few seconds to restore itself to awake mode, especially if you have numerous applications open simultaneously.

-Try selecting Sleep from the Apple menu in the menu bar instead of closing the lid and see if the issue persists when you wake it.
-Are you closing the lid to transport the MacBook Pro, or is it stationary on your desk/table/etc.?
-Have you tried any of the following - resetting SMC, repairing disk permissions, etc.?
-Did it always act like this, or is it a recent issue?

I will try the first and third points and see if I can remedy the situation with those, but to answer your questions, I am constantly transporting it from place to place and open and close it to move 10's of times in a day. This issue though has persisted for, at my best estimate, 6 months. I only just decided it might be worthwhile to do something.

Let me know what you find.

It could be that the sleep image has become corrupted. Depending on the results of 1 and 3, we can move forward from there.
