27 Inch iMac OSX10.12.3
have a problem with my screen suddenly going black in several applications. Safari, Outlook, Photos, and iTunes.
I have run etreCheck and it shoes one error: [failed] com.maintain.PurgeInactiveMemory.plist (2017-01-13)
I have deleted every program that I don't use very often an don't know what to next. Could this error be my problem?
Thank Dan

Really strange one, Dan13. When I did a search of that file name, got a lot of links discussing the freeing up of memory. Not sure if it will help you, but here is a link for those results:

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1280&bih=793&q=Can+one+delete+the+com.maintain.Purge+Inactive+Memory.plist+file?&oq=Can+one+delete+the+com.maintain.Purge+Inactive+Memory.plist+file?&gs_l=serp.3...26407.38481.0.38829.29.27.2.0.0.0.94.1500.27.27.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..0.7.460...0i13k1j30i10k1j33i160k1.1byzR5wuxAQ

I have a program entitled "Memory clean" from the App store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/memory-clean-2-monitor-free/id1114591412?mt=12), and I use it to free up memory from time to time (only have 4 gig on each of my Macs). Interestingly when I boot my late 2012 Mac Mini (Samsung 840 Pro 256 gig SSD, OS 10.12.3), the amount of memory consumed just for that does vary somewhat, from as "little" as 1.5 gig to 2.4 gig (such behavior rarely happens on my mid 2013 13" MacBook Air (251 Samsung 840 EVO SSD, OS 10.12.3). A similar program that I have on my MacBook Air is FreeRamBooster.

I also use Outlook 2016, but my browser of choice is Google Chrome (also getting to like Opera more and more). Not having issues like you, though. I guess the other thing I use once a week is the excellent, venerable, freeware program called Onyx, available form here:

http://www.titanium.free.fr/onyx.html

Note that if you want it, you need to get the first version on that list, 3.2.3. There are a number of files that Onyx can clean out for you, and in fact, yesterday I posted info about that:

https://www.mac-help.com/threads/question-marks.223119/

(5th post on that thread).

Maybe some/all of that can help you.
