el capitan 10.11.6 2015 imac 23.5........ have to use different browser for banking other than safari, started using fire fox and found that when requesting a url out of mail or the dock fire fox launches, even if safari is already open, ff is not the default browser and have turned everything off in ff to run bare bones and it still wants to take over the request.........advice ?...

First of all, what do you mean by "when requesting a url out of mail or the dock"? How does one request a url out of mail?

Secondly, is Firefox your default browser?

system preferences > general > default web browser there should be a list of names of active browsers, in this case there there should be tor, safari or firefox there is only a check mark and no name, on installation browsers ask to make this the default, no has been checked on fire fox and tor........

Safari is very useful if you use the reading list system, and has a much sleeker and better UI. Bookmarks more easily sync between my iPhone and Mac, making it more of a convenience for me. ^^

Firefox has a better rendering engine and is more open than Safari, plus had more add-ons.

Both browsers have their pros and cons :)

(Edit: whoops, didn't realise this is a thread asking for help)
