Safari not opening https websites

I have Safari version 5.1.7 and it has been operating fine until today. Today Safari will let me access http websites but will not let me access any https websites. So I can't access my online banking, corporate, or other secure websites that I need to access.

I haven't changed any security, privacy, or other preference settings.

Any ideas?

Safari Menu > Empty Cache
Safari Menu > Reset Safari

Kaveman - thanks and I had already done that. Fortuitously, I was able to solve the problem by rebooting our modem and Airport wireless router. I have no idea why that fixed the problem, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth!
