I have a Mac Pro with OSX 10.7.5. I am using Safari 6.1.6 on it. Yesterday, while browsing the Internet, I got a dialog box from (supposedly) mypcbackitup.com, saying that the computer was infected by a virus and to allow mypcbackitup.com to clean it up. There is only an OK button and no Cancel button. (I don't want to click OK because who knows what further invasion could happen.) After restarting, the same dialog box appears, blocking any Internet access. I don't have any other browser installed among the Applications. I am using a different Mac now. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It sounds like that site is in a cache file (or something similar) that Safari uses. Here are the steps you could try:

1. First, download the excellent free anti-malware program Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. You can get it form here:

https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

Install it, and run it. It might find the "infected" file.

2. If that does not work, download another excellent freeware program, AppCleaner. You can get it from here:

https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

You need to get Version 2.3. Once you install it, launch it, and then move the icon for Safari (inside your applications folder) to AppCleaner. It will find all files associated with Safari. Click to have all those files deleted. Then, re-download and install Safari 6.1.6. You can get that from here:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15675/apple-safari

(You need to click on the link that says "Safari 6.1.6"). Hopefully, that will cure your issues.

Thanks!
Since the Internet is blocked by the malware in the affected Mac, how do I get the new programs into it? Can I download them to a different Mac and then slip them into the affected Mac through a flash drive?
