Safari and Firefox crashing, can't run OnyX, system slow

PowerPC G5 running OS X 10.4.11

Safari keeps crashing, and now Firefox is as well. Safari will just vanish from the screen and dock, while Firefox wants to send an error message to Mozilla. I've download the correct version on OnyX and installed it in my Applications folder in the hope of cleaning up my system, but when I click on OnyX the icon bounces twice in the doc and then vanishes.

I don't know why my system is so unstable, all I do is e-mail and web browsing.

Please help, I can re-install OS 10.4.11 if needed.

All is now well. I ran Disk Utility from the Tiger start up disk, and then re-installed Onyx and cleaned up the system.
