I'm using a wireless usb mouse from Logitech. I have daily episodes of erratic pointer movement. Occasionally the click does not have any effect on the button or selection area. Also during this behavior the mouse often hangs on the border of one of the elements that make up the page. Could be a button or something like the area down the right of this page titled latest threads. Either the border of that area or the icons or text area can cause this to happen. I have checked the activity monitor on the advice of the people I bought the mac from. There is no activity that is so hungry as to interfere with the needs of the mouse. The mac is an Intel quad 2.6 ghz with 8 gigabytes of ram. Thanks for your time. I could not find a way to enable email notification for my posts. Is it automatic? or....

Ron,

First of all, what exact Mac OS are you using? Secondly, what is the exact Mac model you have? For example, I am using OS 10.10, and one of my Macs is a Late 2012 Mac Mini, with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. Also, the model Identifier is Macmini6,2. That is the kind of information we need.

Secondly, I use wireless USB Logitech mice on both of my machines (a model M310 with my Mac Mini, and a model M325 with my Mac Book Air). I am not having any of the issues you are having. One thing to check is to make sure you have the latest Logitech Driver "package" for your mouse.

Let us know about that before we proceed any further.

Honestone thank you for the help.
Exact mac os?........ 10.8.5 is all the info I have about the os. When I got this thing a year or so ago I knew some of the stuff you ask it had some hassidim processor name like nehalem or something like that. . Most people get macs to get away from all that stuff. At least I did. Seems like mac his heading downhill ever they sold out to Intel. I'll make a call tomorrow to see if I can round up some of this intrormation and let you know.

Just above your first post & over to the right are 'Thread Tools', then "Watch Tread". Click on the latter :)

Hello Spawn Dooley, thanks for taking the time to help. I'm really striking out today.... Looking above my original post and to the right I see no thread tools. I see watched threads, New Posts, A little lower down I see unwatch thread so it seem like I'm maybe watching.... thru no efforts on my part. Sorry to be so thick. I appreciate you folks' taking the time. You know at the bottom of this page or my post at least, there are Options and watch thread is checked along with email notification. Maybe it's the default mode. Anyhow thanks quite a bit!!

Sorry Ron, the Thread Tools is for Moderators & the such … you seem to already be watching the thread so you should be receiving email notification, are you not? I think it's automatic to be notified by email when you create a thread or post in one and there is new activity.

It's been a while since I used Mountain Lion, but I believe the instructions I provide (doing it with Yosemite) are accurate. That is, the screens should be either identical, or almost the same:

1. Start up your Mac, and wait until it stops the boot up process, and the desktop appears.

2. In the upper left hand corner, you'll see a black-filled-in Apple symbol. Move your mouse pointer to it, and hold down the mouse button. You'll a sub-menu item at the top called "About This Mac". Move the mouse pointer to that, and click on it.

3. The next screen you see will show you the version of the OS you are using. For example, the screen for me says "OS X Yosemite Version 10.10".

4. On that same screen, it "should" tell you the Mac model you are using. For example, for the machine I am entering this post on, it says "MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)".

5. It also says "Processor: 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5", Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, and Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB".

There is a new version of the Logitech Control Center for Macs, and you can download it for free from here:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/8154/logitech-control-cente

But, before proceeding any further, please provide thecrequested information. Also, how familiar/comfortable are you navigating your way around the OS?

Hello HoneStone, I have some of those from japan for my carving chisels. Tapered cones and grooves for the gouges. Thank you for the info, it might be worth noting that my first post contained everything but the words intel and Xeon. Oh, wait, I left out the fingerprint and retinal scan for the ram.

The first time I read thru the info you requested it was a bit over whelming, I don't usually have much trouble that a restart doesn't fix. But ever since I got this quad I've been thinking it's running slow. I had 2.0 gigahertz G5 before this and it seemed to shut down and boot much faster and there were never any applications whinning about me not showing them the proper respect and canceling shut down. This is windows crap. So I blame the processor source. These days screens load slow as does email. G5 email opened all at once with all the text in place. This one does not. I have been tempted by the `is you mac slow these days?' offers I see everywhere in the online bordello. The internet these days seems like biddniss putting it's worst foot forward.

Is there a way to test the processor speed with results I could relate to? Are the mac clean up software products any good. Someone said they get rid of things you might want keep.
I'm familiar with the mac description and system analysis area. Been using macs for music production since `95. BTW the latest Logitech drivers did not fix the problem yesterday. But it seems to be more intermittent now. I can't make it hang on any of the elements of this page. Just went to the Gardian page where it was misbehaving yesterday after the download and it seemed ok. Maybe it just needed a good nite's sleep. I did do the restart after the instillation. I'm ok poking around in 10.8.5 and I never make changes for which I don't understand the implications. I'm not adverse to upgrading the OS if it deals with the slowness issue. Am I wrong in thinking the intel processors bring with a lot of widows baggage along with them? Sorry for all the questions. Didn't realize I had so many till I got here.

That's cool seems we both discovered it's built in.

Update on my rodent problem. It's still there but much more intermitent. Is there anything else I can do besides up grade the software. There isn't much to do in the sys. prefs. None of the settings there are extreme. It still seems to hang on page components or their borders.

If you had access to a more robust Disk Repair program like Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro, you could try and use them to help with your issue. But, I suspect you do not have access to another Mac with either (or both) of those programs on it. If you did, you could boot you Mac Pro up in "target Disk Mode", and use the tools on the other Mac to perform maintenance/repairs on your internal hard drive.

By the way, you have never said which model Logitech mouse you have. That could be useful.

One other thing you could do is to try a different mouse on your machine. In fact, you could try an Apple mouse, or even a wired Logitech mouse, and see what happens.

But, beyond that, I am at a loss with any further suggestions.
