Retrieve deleted files without Time Machine

Hi. I deleted three important document folders from my desktop. Then, later, I emptied the trash. (Yes I know it was really dumb!) I have only had a Mac a few months and have not yet set up Time Machine. So, I have no idea how to retrieve my documents. Please help! Thanks.

There is no way without additional recovery software.

Kaveman is right in what he said, But,

Try to get a hold of copy Date Rescue this will do the job for you.

We use Data Rescue 2 or Disk Warrior.

I really don't want to encourage you, there is an amazing amount of data written to the modern disks, and sorting and finding files is a nightmare. It may??? be possible but you can spend a lot of time and money and still not be certain you will get the files.
