HELP! Inherited iMac X. Tiger . Running very slow, so I am attempting reinstall of systems discs 1 & 2. Going to disc 2, installing iWork '06 trial. Gets to writing files: 100% completed. Time remaining 26 minutes. It sits with no progress.

Hello and welcome.
A few questions to help us narrow down the issue:

-Which model iMac?
-Are the discs the black retail or grey machine-specific discs?
-Does it give any error message at all, or just hang?
-Do you have Apple or third-party RAM installed?
-Can you startup the Mac, even though the install failed?

Am attempting again to finish reinstall. Began disc 2 at 37 past the hour. At 38 past, installer log reads, "NOT installing into home / var / root
Starting installation" Again, sitting on "Writing files: 100% Complete". 26 minutes remaining
