Just received late 2012 Imac - setup does not show pairing with keyboard (mac) and requires typing in passwords, etc. Cannot get past all this to the operating system where I can verify bluetooth is working. It recognizes the wireless mouse of course, that has the usb plug.

How can I set it up for my daughter?

Hello and welcome.

-The mouse you are using is not wireless if it has a USB plug.
-I assume the keyboard you are trying to use doesn't have a wire? If not, do you have fresh batteries installed correctly?
-Is the wireless keyboard powered on - green light flashing?
-Do you have access to a wired USB keyboard (pretty much any brand will work) to use to get logged into the iMac?

Thanks everyone for your input. I did find a work-around to get to the preferences. I found that bluetooth was not ON, and the Imac is now set up.

More info for any who follow later: You right click in the text slot where they are asking for info - and choose "substitution". Then choose "more options" for text - and the preferences will be available.
