Recommendations on RAID Storage

I'm doing a lot of digital imaging and have around 400GB of files right now (expected to grow fast). At present, I am using LaCie Big Disks with SoftRAID, but they have proven quite unreliable over the last couple of years.

Anyone have experience with solid hardward RAID solutions? Reliability is a super high concern, but speed must also be taken into account.

Thoughts?
