I suppose I have used QuickTIme occasionally. You know, you click on a video and it plays, you never really think about it.

So I have a new dashboard camera. If you wait a few moments, you can see my morning commute here:

As you can see, the camera records in AVI format and works pretty well for a $20 POS. I can even play the files on my office Windows machine. The files are OK.

But when I bring them to my Mac at home, I have an odd problem. Double click on icon and the file plays in the thumbnail, not full size. If I click some more I get a full-sized black box with the audio playing, but no picture. I presume I am doing something wrong. Anyone want to set me right on this?

Hi,

Do not double click the file try just right clicking and from the drop down menu choose to play with quicktime, what is the result?

Because it is in AVI format, I suggest downloading VLC and assigning AVI to open and play with it.

Let us know if that helps,

I get VLC from the App store? Type slowly as I am an Old Person.

(Nothing called VLC in the App Store, try Version Tracker?)

My goodness that downloaded quickly! It must be a very small program. In any case, that seems to work, although all the videos are upside down. Given the nature of the camera, that might be a problem with the file. Any thoughts?

In any case, thank you very much.

Hi,

I find this really odd as all my camera vids are AVI format and play in quicktime perfectly. Second screen shot is of quicktime opening a AVI vid and last one is the AVI file playing. So not sure why the posters file would not play correctly ?
