Quick avatar help request

Quick general question not specifically related to Mac notebook, though that's what I am using.

So on another completely different forum I want to give myself an avatar (actually replace the one I already have there).

So I have a nice pic ready, but it must be too dense - the site tells me to reduce that to 80 X 80 pixels.

Anyone tell me just a quick and simple way of doing that?

Hi,

Preview can do this but make sure you save the image as a JPEG.

The image is jpeg. HOW do I do this with Preview? I was in fact able to get into Preview and put my image there and find a place where I could tell it 80 X 80 pixels, whereupon it also shrunk my image to about the right size. After that I cannot do anything else with it, Save or export or anything and a coloured disk goes round and round incessantly nothing moves it.
