problems with selfie-stick

Friends gave me a selfie-stick. My phone does not see it. I have an iPhone 4s. On other models it works. Do you think the problem in connector or selfie-stick?

not even the original headphones work well! I still think that the problem is in the type of sockets on my phone model. And I need to look for an adapter selfie stick.

points to the phone jack, but if good with other models i would get one of those.
