Problems With Changing short name

Basically, I was stupid and forgot to back up my data when I tried to change my short username, (the username connected to the home "place").


I have two questions- is the data recoverable? This isn't of utmost importance, it was just a few games from steam that are redownloadable, and my itunes music is on an external hard drive.

If it isn't recoverable, will this data take up space on my hard drive? Will it be automatically overwritten? And are there any tools to delete the data if it isn't recoverable?
