I have a powerbook g4 which runs on 10.4 i believe. i was having some trouble with firefox so i trashed it and redownloaded it. it wasn't working. I was getting an error of some sort and i couldn't install it. I looked on some mac forums to troubleshoot and one said i had to delete a couple of things and that would solve the problem. I forgot what it was they told me to delete but it had something to do with the cache and kernel. Then i tried to redownload firefox and it still didn't work. The next time i rebooted my computer it wouldn't get anywhere past the grey apple screen. I restarted in safe mode and it said it would not repair the disk. I restarted in verbose mode and am getting a bus error 25, 27, 28, and 29. Also the following message is repeated infinitely every 12 seconds or so: /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow part /dev/console exited abnormally: Bus error disk0s3: I/O error.
I have no idea if the error messages i'm getting have anything to do with the two extensions i deleted or not. what can i do to repair this problem?

If you have the original Software & System Restore media for your PB, then put in the System Restore disc and reboot your mac holding down the "C" key upon hearing the chime.

When you see the menu bar click on one of the options *can't recall exactly which*, and look for Disc Utility. When it's launched, run a repair on Permissions and then Disc.

Reboot and let us know how it goes.
