Problem with DVD player software

I don't often play DVDs on my G5 iMac, but when I tried to today I get the error

There was an initialization error

The player requires a newer version of the DVDPlayback framework [-70103]

I'm not too sure what this framework it referrs to is

Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

can i just check what version of OS X are you using ?

I take it that DVD's did use to work, is it just one DVD that doesn't work, or all DVD's ?

Did this stop working after a recent software update !

Hi Rick

I I'm on 10.4.2

I tused to work fine when I tried it. I've just run software update, and despite it being set to run weekly, there's a host of updates there, including one for the DVD player. When I tried to install them I've a few red exclamation marks next to some on them, including the DVD update, and now wants to reboot. I'll let it restart and try the update again

No problem,let us know how it goes. You might want to run repair permissions once all the updates have been done.

It seems OK now.

I guess a previous automatic update must have broken it and I only noticed today. A few software updates and restarts seems to have cured it

I guess I should have tried software update first but the phrase that mentioned frameworks threw me as it was new to me

No problem, 'frameworks' are part of the underlying 'code' that Mac OS X is built on...can't think of a better way of describing them ?

Apple sometimes 'break things' in one update and then fix them in the next...
