Immediately after upgrading to Sierra on my IMac I could no longer connect to the printer (Cannon, error 300). As best as I can tell the printer driver for Sierra is the same as I had for El Capitan. What else to investigate??
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the problem I have is more complicated, namely, I am unable to open system preferences ( and About this Mac) under the Apple and therefore cannot follow your suggestion.
If you cannot open system preferences or about this Mac you have bigger problems than printer access. Have you tried running First Aid from disk utility?
Do you have a backup? Perhaps download and run Onyx (http://www.titanium.free.fr/onyx.html)
Personally if I had everything backed up I would start over with a clean install instead of an upgrade.
