Preview not opening images

When I double clip an image on my desktop it looks like its going to open, kinda zooms out, but never opens on desktop.
Any thoughts? Thanks

  • Which exact model Mac?
  • Which version of macOS?
  • Does it happen with every image file, or just certain ones?
  • Do you have an external display connected?
