Pressing function key F3 to use Expose crashes computer

At least a few times a day when I press the F3 function key to view open documents through Expose my computer crashes and then restarts. I can discern no pattern to this. It doesn't seem to matter what programs I have open. And it is random and unpredictable.

It happens whether I use the F3 key on my Mac Book Pro or on a second keyboard I have plugged in to the computer.

My operating system is OSX Mavericks.

Does anyone have an idea how this can be fixed?

-Which model Mac?

You could try the following:
Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

Let us know those three troubleshooting steps fixes the issue.

Hello Cory,

I have a Mac Book Pro, mid. 2010, 2.4 GHz, Intel Core ¡5.

The disk utility indicated nothing to repair. I reset the NVRAM as directed, but I don't know if it did anything. The problem doesn't occur every time. After reading the material on resetting the System Management Controller, it didn't seem that that addressed the problem.

Hopefully all is now well.
