I'm using a Mac Pro 5,1 mid 2010, 2 x 2.66 GHz 6 core intel xeon with 64 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 using an SSD (brand new) as the start up disk and running OS High Sierra 10.13.6. I can log in on start-up with my user name and password no problem, I can even go into my settings and change the password if I want to. If I attempt to click the little lock icon to effect any other changes, the system will not accept my user name and password. Totally weird and extremely frustrating, I cannot get past this point no matter what I try. I use this computer primarily for video editing and have lots of work coming up very soon, I'm desperate, can anyone help me?

Hello and welcome.

Are you using the long or short name...i.e. Your Name or yourname?

The problem was that I was not set up as admin, it seems crazy I know, long story but reinstallation of the OS and setting myself as admin worked.
