Power outage while updating system

Hi

Can someone help? I have a quadcore iMac running 10.6.4... went to update to 10.6.5 today and the process was within the last minutes of writing the updated files when we had a power outage... the mac no longer boots nor will it even read my snow leopard installer disc... I thought of re-installing the operating system

I can see everything on the drive via target disc mode thru my laptop and I have repaired permissions using disc utility but iMac still won't boot just a gray screen with apple symbol... what else can I try?

Have you tried reinstalling 10.6.5 via target disc mode?
