Hi
I have accidentally dragged over 10,000 pictures onto my desktop whilst trying to drop them onto an external hdd as my time machine wasn't backing up. I now have the spinning wheel permanently. The images are stacked on top of each other and I can not delete them.
please help if you can.

Ok are you able to open activity monitor?
If not try booting from your installation disk, remember to hold down the C key while booting.

EDIT:

Reason I ask is because this generally indicates that your Mac is engaged in a processor-intensive activity. And activity monitor would show which process is the culprit thus you could end it.
